2010 Southern Open

The Southern Open was played at Kingston on 15 May. Aidan Cutlan won the Mens Singles from Doug McLean. McLean had beaten John Lee (3) and in a surprise result, Eddie Kasser (1) to make the final. Former Tasmanian player, now playing at Dandenong in Victoria, Daniel Delbourgo participated in the event. He was elimated by No 2 seed, Andrew Castaldi. Delbourgo combined with Matthew Tadd to make the final of the Mens Doubles were they lost a close match to the formidable Castaldi / Leeds combination.

Australian Commonwealth Games Knockout Tournament

Sue Stevenson, TTA High Performance Coaching Co-ordinator advises: "Please note that a decision has been made to conduct a public draw for the Australian Commonwealth Games Knockout Tournament. The draw will take place at the Melbourne Sports & Aquatic Centre in the Table Tennis Venue from 12.15 – 12.30 pm on Thursday 22 July, 2010. All interested parties are welcome to attend".

2010 Northern Suburbs Open

Aidan Cutlan won his second tournament this year when he narrowly defeated Andrew Castaldi in the final 4 - 3. Maddy Goodsell defeated Lydia Massie in the Womens final.

2010 NW Open

As with the Eastside Open in February, the Mens Singles at this event was won by Eddie Kasser. This time Eddie defeated Tim Smith in the final, 4 - 3.

 

2010 State League, Country Club Casino, Launceston

Held on the 12 & 13 June this event was eagerly contested with Northern Suburbs just snatching victory from Southern Tas. Tim Smith won the 'Open' individual trophy, Doug McLean the Over 50 and James Katarzynski the Under 21. Well organised with TV and newspaper coverage.

The Northern Open was won by Eddie Kasser.

This popular annual event was narrowly won by Eastside from Northern & Southern.

If you have broadband connection you can watch TV broadcasts of table tennis via the ITTF website. Click on the itTV icon.

Then click on the screen and you will be asked to download an .exe file. Once installed you need to open program from desktop shortcut and select the event you wish to view. A little slow at first but seemed to work fine when fully buffered.

The Coaching and Officiating Unit of the Australian Sports Commission has just developed a series of new web pages aimed at “grass roots” coaches and officials.  The web pages, entitled “Tools and Tips for New Coaches and Officials” are a key part of our strategy to engage with and provide greater assistance to community level coaches and officials.
